چکیده

To elucidate the role of (1-->3)-beta-D-glucan in pulmonary aspergilloma, serum concentrations of (1-->3)-beta-D-glucan were measured repeatedly for as long as 10 months in eight patients. In four patients with inactive disease, concentrations of (1-->3)-beta-D-glucan were in the normal range. The concentrations of (1-->3)-beta-D-glucan increased in two patients, although the disease was inactive. This increase might show the earliest stage of the invasive process of the disease. In two other patients with active disease, (1-->3)-beta-D-glucan increased. Other parameters, such as galactomannan, immunodiffusion and a radio-allergosorbent test, as well as inflammatory m arkers such as C-reactive protein and the leukocyte count, did not show any consistent tendency in regard to the activity of the disease. Thus, a (1-->3)-beta-D-glucan assay may add valuable data for evaluating the disease activity and understanding the disease process of pulmonary aspergilloma.

Surgical Treatment of Pulmonary Aspergilloma

Introduction: Surgical approaches for the management of pulmonary aspergilloma have been accompanied with high levels of morbidity and mortality. However, these therapeutic options are still favored over other approaches for the treatment of Pulmonary Aspergilloma. In this study, we aimed to describe the characteristics of 30 patients with aspergilloma who referred to  Ghaem hospital between 20...

Direct transbronchial administration of liposomal amphotericin B into a pulmonary aspergilloma

Pulmonary aspergillomas usually occur in pre-existing lung cavities exhibiting local immunodeficiency. As pulmonary aspergillomas only partially touch the walls of the cavities containing them, they rarely come into contact with the bloodstream, which makes it difficult for antifungal agents to reach them. Although surgical treatment is the optimal strategy for curing the condition, most patien...

cated for detection of invasive candidiasis. Our data indicate that the rate o f false positive results is potentially high in some patient collectives of risk; for example, after cardiac artery bypass grafting (CABG). Th e recently published guidelines from the Surviving Sepsis Campaign recommend the use of (13)-β-dglucan as a surrogate for invasive candidiasis [1]. Fung al infections are inc...

Serum galactomannan and (1->3)-β-D-glucan assays for patients with multiple myeloma and Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia.

We assessed the performance of galactomannan and (1→3)-β-d-glucan in 29 serum samples from patients with multiple myeloma and Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia without invasive fungal disease to address issues of false positivity and uninterpretable results previously reported among patients with these conditions. Galactomannan and (1→3)-β-d-glucan assays were not falsely elevated in any patient....
